Freshly Made Butterflies

It's Wednesday which means a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches. Linda S designed this fun sketch; I love the banner and sentiment layer.  I wasn't sure I was going to get a card made this week, but I found that I *needed* to stamp yesterday to get my mind off things.   I decided to make a card for my mom.   I want to thank all of you who responded to my post yesterday and asked for her address.  I am happy she'll be getting so many cards in the mail soon.

I was in a purple mood for some reason yesterday.  I used Wisteria Wonder; aren't we all glad it's sticking around?  I wish Concord Crush had replaced Elegant Eggplant, but I didn't get my way with that one either. I'm still missing that color.  I was in a retired stamp set mood I guess so all the stamping is from sets that were just gathering dust.

Stamps:  Butterfly Prints, Love & Care
Ink:  Elegant Eggplant, Wisteria Wonder
Paper:  Elegant Eggplant, Wisteria Wonder, 2011-2013 In Colors stack, Whisper White
Accessories: Basic Pearls
Tools: Butterfly Punch (retired)

I love this picture.  It was Laila's first time meeting her and she was so content to just sit in granny's lap and look at her.

Dynamic Dirty Cards

This week I'm trying to fit in some of the awesome Dare to Get Dirty challenges on Splitcoaststampers.   It's a fun set of challenges for people who are members of the Fan Club there.   I've been using that website since I first started making cards and LOVE it.  It's a great way to look at card samples sorted by the stamp sets you own!
Here's my card for the first challenge.  It was a tough one, but I kinda like how it turned out!

Stamps:  Papillon Potpourri, Butterfly Prints (retired)
Ink:  Staz On Black, Versamark
Paper:  Whisper White
Tools/Accessories:  Big Shot, Labels Collection Framelits, Stripes embossing folder, Elegant Butterfly punch, Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack, Heat Tool, Iridescent Ice embossing powder, Embossing Buddy, Simply Scored w/ diagonal insert, Basic Pearls
For my second card I combined two challenges, the second Dare to Get Dirty challenge with the colors from Dynamic Duos.   I was making this at midnight last night while my blueberry cheesecake bars (Pinterest recipe) were baking.  :)   It's a simple, but still gorgeous card I think. I love the new ink pads because it really gives some amazing coverage and color to the image!

Stamps:  Lovely as a Tree, Netting background
Ink:  Early Espresso
Paper: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla, Neutrals DSP stack

We had Laila's one month pictures made last week so I thought I'd share one of the sneak peeks we got to see.  Such a little cutie!

FMS35: Vintage Butterflies

It is Wednesday and time for another sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!   Jen T. is our hostess this week and has this fun three-panel sketch to challenge everyone.   It took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to do with my card, but with the help of my friend Marla I finally settled on some embossed panels.   What do you think?
I had to use the adorable Butterfly Prints set.  I haven't had it very long and it will be retiring at the end of this month. :(  Of course I'll keep it because I tend to use retired stuff if it strikes my fancy.  I love having lots of options!

Stamps:  Petite Pairs, Butterfly Prints
Ink:  Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo
Paper:  Baja Breeze, Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo, Brights DSP stack
Tools/Accessories:  Big Shot, Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, Beautiful Wings embosslit, Butterfly punch, scallop oval punch, oval punch, Island Indigo Baker's Twine, In Color Dotted brads, Basic Pearls

On a personal note, this pregnancy is winding down and so am I.   This week I've been really sick with a sore throat and aching ears, so I'm on antibiotics and finally starting to feel a little better.   Unfortunately my blood pressure has been up, so I have to get labs done today to test for pre-eclampsia.   Cross your fingers that all goes well with that.  I heard my doctor throw out bed rest when we were talking about it and I would be so unhappy for that to happen.   I already told Jason he'd have to buy me a mattress for my stamp room floor!  :)

Come play along with us this week!  Be sure to stop in and say hi to the other design team members and our awesome guest designers!

FMS27: Butterflies

Here we go again!  Time for another challenging sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!   Lesley totally threw me for a loop with this one.  I have a second card I started on my desk for this one because I wasn't sure the first one really worked.  Of course I got lazy and distracted, so it's still sitting there in pieces.   I'll try to finish it up and post it this week.   Here's the first one though:
I had some butterflies left over from our technique project at club, so I decided to put them to use on this card.  I thought they would work okay for the circular elements.   I tried to add a bit of dimension to them by curling up the wings a bit and added a solid punched one behind them.  To add some interest to the background, I used the diagonal plate for my Simply Scored board.   I'll admit that it isn't my favorite card and I could tell from Jason's reaction that it wasn't his either.  LOL   They all can't be winners, right?  :)

I hope you'll join us this week and show us just what this sketch can do!

Club Card #2: More Butterflies!

Shockingly, I found out this week that there are some people out there who don't like purple!   Now pink I can understand, but purple?!  It's the best color ever and works so beautifully with green...how can you NOT like it?!   Anyway, I still love my friends and try to block out that they are purple haters.   :)    For our club technique this month, we did the baby wipe technique.  It was the first time I've tried it and I really love the results. My husband told me they looked like tie-dye butterflies, which is true I guess.  lol  I thought the two purples and green worked beautifully together!   This was also a new stamp set for me and I enjoyed working with it.   I used this card as the inspiration for mine; I'm just not brave enough to use all that white space yet!

Stamps:  Butterfly Prints
Ink:  Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Pear Pizzazz
Paper:  Concord Crush, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White, Cheerful Treat hostess DSP
Tools/Accessories:  Butterfly punch, Scallop Border punch, Itty Bitty punch pack, basic pearls, baby wipe

Today we are heading to the paint store to get some samples for Laila's room!   We've narrowed it down to 3 grays and I'm also getting one yellow.  We didn't find any yellows from the swatches that worked, so I'm taking her quilt along with me to have them match it.  I'll try to post after we get the colors on the wall.
